Welcome to CryptoArt Sundays folks! This week we have a different type of artist to the usual style that I feature on this column. Say hello to Brendan Murphy, a creator of abstract art and sculptures. He currently works from his home-based studios in Malibu, CA and Miami, FL.

His work is represented in over 600 private collections, each piece pushing the walls of creativity beyond the confines of the canvas by exploring sculptural works, conceptual pieces, a wide range of rare materials, and producing his art with non-traditional methods. Brendan has carved out a space for himself in the CryptoArt scene since 2021, and formed a strong community around his NFT project called ‘Boonji.’

Let’s dive in and see how Brendan’s experience has been in the NFT space so far!

How did you find out about the NFT space, and what attracted you to create your own NFTs?

As an artist, I’m always looking to push the boundaries. Over the past two decades I’ve become known for my Boonji Spaceman sculpture series which is all about embracing the unknown and taking that next step. So naturally, I was inclined to explore this space but I wanted to take a nontraditional approach and teamed up with digital art pioneers Jupiter Group to create what would become ‘Boonji Project.’ Rather than creating a 1/1 NFT, I wanted to reimagine my lifetime portfolio of physical work into a collection of NFTs and bridge the gap between the physical and digital art worlds.

How often do you create?

The simple answer is everyday, all the time. I make stuff. It’s my passion and just what I do.

What is your creative process?

Not sure there is one specific process. It’s all about being present and recognizing when you stumble on a concept and then figuring out how to bring it to life. That’s the challenge – taking something from concept to fruition, not forgetting the original idea along the way.

Are there any CryptoArtists you would love to collaborate with?

I am currently working with Gal at Galaxy Eggs on something really special. He’s a super talent and I’m excited to share more on what we have in the works in the coming months.

What do you think the future of CryptoArt will look like?

The rise of the metaverse coupled with the advances we’re seeing in screen technology and the seamless way it is being integrated into our lives, will continue to drive this genre of art and creativity. The future is bright and this new world of physical and digital art will challenge artists to be more imaginative than ever before and that’s a pretty exciting thing.

What are you currently working on?

We are constantly working to add utility and experiences for our Boonji Communji as we travel through the JOA galaxy. Most recently we airdropped 999 physical paintings to randomly selected NFT holders and released 33 new, hand-crafted NFTs featuring landscape images from our journey through the galaxy. This is just the beginning as we focus on exciting new ways to reward our community and push the frontiers of web3 and fine art.

Where can collectors find your work?

Boonji Project NFTs and tokenized artwork can be acquired through OpenSea and Nifty Gateway.
