CryptoArt Sundays: Interview with Ladislas

Welcome to CryptoArt Sundays folks! This week I reveal to you the one and only…Ladislas! If you haven’t yet heard of this incredibly talented artist, you’ve been missing out, and this is your chance to get to know him.

Ladislas is a French artist based in Barcelona. He mixes various techniques to create vivid and bold artworks, with a focus on detailed artworks reflecting his vision of the world. His artworks truly portray his ability to express himself authentically and in his own graphical language.

Find out more below on how he got into the NFT space and his unique art journey!

How did you find out about the NFT space, and what attracted you to create your own NFTs?

I’ve been creating mostly digital art for more than 10 years now, doing digital painting. I learned bit by bit improving my technique for digital painting, like a traditional painter would do. So after a decade when I first heard about the “NFT” I got really excited, traditional galleries are not really giving value to digital art, that’s a pity because it’s definitely part of the future and present. The whole commercial/professional industry has been working like that for 15 years or so.

When I saw NFTs appear I felt that this could be a new way to sell my paintings and digital art to a new audience. I got contacted in 2019 by MakersPlace to join their platform and upload some work (at the time it was free, the gas fee was paid by the platform).

How often do you create?

I create digital art every week, I mix this practice with the traditional one because both of them are connected in my practice.

What is your creative process?

Most of the time I’m using the digital tool first because it gives me way more freedom to experiment, play with layers to establish a composition and choose colors for the painting. I don’t include photographs in my paintings, everything is hand drawn digitally with a tablet and then hand painted on photoshop. I want to keep this rule for my art, making sure everything I create is made using my “skills” that I built for myself.

I think it’s very important to keep this value in the new digital art market because with the improvement of software we have more possibilities to create and also have way more tools to help us. You can now buy 3D models for example that you didn’t create, just assemble them and it reduces the work of creation, you need less expertise in some way.

In this case can we say the artwork is 100% yours? Do we have the full paternity of it ? That’s a complex question that the NFT Art communities have to ask themselves. I personally think it’s important to create your own content and be the master of your art, if not you might be blocked if you don’t have access to these help.

Are there any CryptoArtists you would love to collaborate with?

I’m not really looking for specific collaborations but would be happy to collaborate with artists or interesting NFT projects if the opportunity comes up (I already collaborated with a few artists in the past and it went quite smooth and well).

What do you think the future of CryptoArt will look like?

I think the NFT market is gonna develop and stabilize, also because a lot of content was created and minted when the NFT market exploded in 2020/21.

Many people tried to sell anything, some of the collectors didn’t know what was good or bad, it was all part of a “hype.” We need some expertise and people that can appreciate the skills, technique, concept, message, originality in the community so we can have a better and fair appreciation of the valuable pieces.

The other big issue that has to be sold is the ecological footprint. Actually the “POW” is not a viable solution for the future and too many people are blinded by the attraction of money. I know these topics are currently in the process of finding future sustainable solutions. “POS” is an alternative, I know some people that are more informed than me on the topic and they all say that each technique has its own positive and negative points.

I have hope that people are gonna focus more on a long-term fair and sustainable solution instead of focusing on quick and fast interests and money. This NFT world can transform and will transform the society, with so many possibilities with it, it’s up to us to craft it the best way possible so it stays accessible for anyone and fair/valuable.

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently painting a door for an exhibition in France in March. At the same time I’m preparing the release of an artbook in collaboration with the organization “PangeaSeed” that is giving a voice to the oceans through mural art festivals.

I intend to create art with a meaningful ecological purpose (we have to face the “fast growing” ecological crisis). I collaborate on social projects with companies, organizations and museums that are sharing the same values as I do.

I’m also looking for new exciting projects that are fitting with social/ecological education, to raise awareness on important topics and help contribute to a better modern society in coherence with the challenges of this millennium.

Where can collectors find your work?

You can find my work on Instagram where I post most of my paintings and illustrations/projects. I’m presenting projects on my Behance profile (with more content, images and process of creation than Instagram). You can also find my NFTs on MakersPlace.

(I will release more but I’m waiting for improvements of the ecological footprint system otherwise it would go contrary to my engagement for ecology.)
