Kognitiv Spark Opens UK Office for Global Expansion

Canadian XR firm Kognitiv Spark announced last week it had opened its first UK-based office in Oxfordshire to expand the company’s European operations.

The enterprise’s RemoteSpark platform allows remote professionals to troubleshoot complex issues and receive support, reducing the amount of equipment downtime and company costs for sending engineers.

What does the Meta AI Showcase Mean for XR?

On Thursday last week, Meta AI updated global fans in a major online event about several of its artificial intelligence (AI) solutions designed to interface online users with the Metaverse.

The firm’s Builder Bot, CAIRaoke, and open-source Torchrec AI tools aim to use voice commands to build virtual worlds, interact with Metaverse platforms, and build software ecosystems.

How Does the UX Affect the Future of the Metaverse?

Firms such as JP Morgan and Meta have launched bespoke Metaverses for their clients, sparking questions over vital considerations when developing optimal user experiences. Fans were bemused by Meta’s post-Superbowl snafu, which blocked thousands from attending a Foo Fighters virtual concert.

The news also triggered criticisms from Metaverse experts, including Jerod Venema, LiveSwitch Co-Founder and CEO, who offered advice on dealing with shock inflows of virtual guests.

Microsoft Adds Digital Safe Space Updates to Altspace

Redmond, Washington-based tech giant Microsoft updated key features for its AltspaceVR Metaverse platform in a bid to protect the safety of its online users.

The company added larger personal boundaries to avatars and removed social hubs from the platform days after Meta launched similar measures to prevent online harassment.

Sony Debuts PlayStation VR 2 Specs, Photos

Sony Interactive Entertainment unveiled photos and specs for its next-generation VR headset, including new designs and Sense controllers, at a product launch event.

The tech giant’s new VR kit features orb-shaped controllers, a new ventilation system, lens-spacing adjustment, a haptic motor in the headset, and overall reduced weight, among others.

Nreal Air Set to Launch in Japan

Chinese AR headset manufacturer Nreal announced it had begun accepting orders for its Air smart glasses, which are set to debut in Japan in early March.

The firm’s Air headset will feature video streaming for Magenta and YouTube, a lightweight form factor, and TÜV Rheinland Group-certified displays to protect from blue light exposure, for roughly $345 USD.
